Student Vote will provide students with an opportunity to learn about the British Columbia local elections, debate the future of their community, and cast ballots for their official local candidates.
The program is open to all schools and there is no cost to participate. Schools may offer Student Vote to as many classes as they choose. The materials are designed for grades 4 to 12.
Registered schools are supplied with a variety of learning materials, including lesson plans, videos, slides and digital activity templates. The activities are flexible enough to be delivered through classroom, blended or remote learning.
The activities are intended to inform students about democracy, government and the election process, encourage research into the local candidates and parties, and foster dialogue among students and their families.
Students vote for the official candidates running in their local elections. The results are shared publicly after the close of voting on election day.
