{"id":866,"date":"2019-10-21T17:50:03","date_gmt":"2019-10-21T17:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/studentvote.ca\/canada\/?page_id=866"},"modified":"2025-05-28T17:25:22","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T17:25:22","slug":"the-results","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/studentvote.ca\/canada\/the-results\/","title":{"rendered":"The Results"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Students elect Conservative Party government in nationwide vote<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nearly one million elementary, intermediate and high school students participated in Student Vote Canada, coinciding with the 2025 federal election. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After learning about democracy and elections, researching the parties and platforms, and debating the future of the country, students cast their ballots for the official candidates running in their school\u2019s electoral district.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As of 4:00 pm ET on Friday, May 16, 917,109 valid votes were reported from 6,302 schools, with results from all 343 electoral districts. There were also 32,404 rejected ballots. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students elected a Conservative minority government, with the Liberal Party forming the official opposition.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong>Conservative Party<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won 163 seats and 36.3% of the popular vote, forming a minority government. <\/span><strong>Pierre Poilievre<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won in the riding of Carleton, ON.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong>Liberal Party<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won 147 seats and 31.8% of the popular vote, forming the official opposition. <\/span><strong>Mark Carney<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won in the riding of Nepean, ON.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong>Bloc Qu\u00e9becois<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won 18 seats and 2.2% of the popular vote. <\/span><strong>Yves-Fran\u00e7ois Blanchet<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won in the riding of Beloeil\u2014Chambly, QC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong>NDP<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won 13 seats and 14.5% of the popular vote. <\/span><strong>Jagmeet Singh<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> lost in the riding of Burnaby South, BC.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><strong>Green Party<\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> won 2 seats and 7.4% of the popular vote. <\/span><strong>Jonathan Pedneault<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">lost in the riding of Outremont, QC, and <\/span><strong>Elizabeth May<\/strong> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">won in Saanich\u2014Gulf Islands.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>VIEW COMPLETE style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The results of Student Vote Canada 2025 have sparked more discussion and analysis than ever before, with many political experts and pundits trying to figure out what the results say about the younger generation and the future of Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To hear from the students themselves, we partnered with Abacus Data on the first-ever <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/civix.ca\/exitsurvey\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student Vote Exit Survey<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> More than 13,000 students from across Canada completed the survey and responded to questions about the issues they cared about and the factors that influenced their vote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More than half (54%) of students said they based their vote primarily on the party that they felt had the best policies, and cost of living was
