More than 13,000 elementary, intermediate and high school students participated in the Student Vote program for the 2019 Newfoundland and Labrador provincial election.
After learning about democracy and informed citizenship, researching the parties and platforms, and debating the future of Newfoundland and Labrador, students cast ballots for the official candidates running in their school’s electoral district.
In total, 108 schools had reported their election results, representing all 40 provincial electoral districts. In total, 13,558 ballots were cast by student participants; 13,064 valid ballots and 494 rejected ballots.
Students elected Dwight Ball and the Liberal Party to form a majority government with 25 seats. The PC Party will form the official opposition with 10 seats. The NDP won 3 seats. Two candidates with no party affiliation were also elected.
