Student Vote is a unique hands-on learning program that provides students under the voting age with the opportunity to experience the voting process firsthand and build the habits of active and engaged citizenship.

Students learn about government and electoral process, and explore the issues, parties and candidates through classroom activities, family discussion and campaign events. On Student Vote Day, students take on the roles of election officials and coordinate a vote for the official local election candidates running in their school’s electoral district. The Student Vote results are shared publicly following the close of the official polls.

Student Vote is the flagship program of CIVIX. CIVIX is a non-partisan Canadian charity dedicated to strengthening democracy through civics and citizenship education among school-aged youth.

With support from Elections Yukon, CIVIX will be offering Student Vote for the 2021 territorial election. Participating schools receive access to educational resources, ballots, ballot boxes and voting screens.

The program is offered at no cost and open to all Yukon schools.
