Student Vote Ballots and Comparing the Party Platforms
There are now six days remaining until the election, but there is still lots of time to engage in discussions and activities to help prepare your students for Student Vote Day.
Your Student Vote ballots
Our distribution team has packaged more than 1 million Student Vote ballots, and they are now on their way to 7,500 schools throughout the country. You can track your package using the notification email from Canada Post. As a reminder, you may receive a notice to pick up your package at a local Canada Post outlet or you may need to visit your community mailbox.
Please open your package to ensure you have the correct ballots. If you notice any issues, please let us know immediately and we will work with you towards a solution.
Pollenize
We are excited to announce the launch of Pollenize Canada 2021, an online tool that outlines the platform promises made by the major parties on 13 different election issues. Make sure that you click on the “Show Mores” to see all the proposed policies for each issue (in some cases there are a dozen).
Over the last few days, we have tried to simplify the language, and add definitions of key terms to help make the information easier to understand. This work is still ongoing. Please keep in mind that there is a lot of material and you may want to focus on only a couple policies per party, the issues students are most interested in or support your research with other summary tools (see below).
Other party platform tools
You may wish to consider using the platform summaries created by different media sources to support your analysis of the parties. Examples include:
- Maclean’s: 2021 Election Platform Guide
- CBC News: How do the main parties compare on these issues?
- CTV News: Where do the parties stand?
- Toronto Star: Promise Tracker
- Vancouver Sun: 12 hot topics and where each party stands
Party Leader Q&As
Lastly, we wanted to remind you to take advantage of the Party Leader Q&A videos, which offer a quick and easy way to compare each party’s priorities: https://studentvote.ca/canada/
